Three Audio-Only Let’s Plays

I love audio-only Let’s Plays. There’s something comforting about hearing people play games I know. It can also be hilarious and infuriating when the players are bad. I have no desire to watch Let’s Play videos, but because I haven’t been able to find a decent list of audio-only versions I am making my own. However, some of these creators produce great video content as well. All these podcasts should be available on your podcast app of choice.

No One Can Know About This – The first audio-only Let’s Play I found. I think it’s the gold standard. Two friends are on a quest to play every Final Fantasy game. They are very funny and the episodes are well edited. It’s very bingeable because they only play one game at a time. The Final Fantasy 7 season is my favorite. The game is one of the best ever made and the hosts have hit their stride by season 4.

Daniel K’s Let’s Plays – This is some real audio-only material. There is a Daniel K channel on Youtube, but it only has a fraction of his content. He plays a lot of different stuff. I like his Pokemon Nuzlocke challenges. His other work involving Ovaltine and a Rubik’s snake is also top-notch. He even has an entire audio drama documenting an apocalypse.

Skeleton House – The newest-to-me audio-only LP. Much like Daniel K, Skeleton House covers a wide variety of games. I am enjoying their Chrono Trigger episodes. I think I will listen to their work with Super Mario RPG next. If I had to make a criticism, I wish the game audio was more prominent. Nostalgia is part of retro Let’s Plays and sounds are important.
