Ticket to Ride is another great game I love to play for real and to play with my son. He’s still far too young to understand the game as a concept, but he likes to play with trains. The plastic train pieces of TTR have great table presence, especially at higher player counts with different colors snaking across the map. My son enjoys lining up the pieces and I am trying to leverage that into some geography education.
It isn’t a complicated concept. We lay out the board and choose our train colors. The “game” involves us taking turns drawing destination cards and laying trains connecting the cities. At the moment my only real goal is to get him repeating after me the city names. He hasn’t been to interested in laying tracks after I point out the cities and trace the route. There is still plenty of time. He wants to play “train game” at least once a week so he sees me laying tracks while he plays in his own way. I think he’ll participate with me more closely in a few months
